Faith and Branko

1h 22m Documentary, Music, F-Rated 2020

This intimate documentary follows the cross-cultural relationship between Faith Elliot and Branko Ristic over seven years. Accordion-player Faith travels from England to Serbia to learn gypsy-style music. She meets Roma violinist Branko and despite language and cultural barriers, they fall in love and decide to marry. After some time together in Serbia, they decide to move to the UK. Although they perform together with enormous verve and talent, their differences become more pronounced and their marriage falls under threat. Irish filmmaker Catherine Harte creates a sensitive portrait of a difficult relationship against a lively backdrop of traditional Roma folk music.
