All I Can Say
After their breakthrough hit No Rain, from which this poignant documentary takes its name, Blind Melon seemed ready for huge commercial success, their take on alternative rock securing them support slots on tours with the likes of Neil Young and Lenny Kravitz. However, while on the road promoting their second album, lead singer Shannon Hoon succumbed to his long-term addictions and died of a cocaine overdose. In the previous years, Hoon had assiduously documented his life on film.
This footage, carefully edited to create All I Can Say, leads to a remarkably intimate portrait of a young man struggling to deal with achieving the success he had been chasing and how to sustain it, how it affected his relationships with friends and family, and becoming a father for the first time in the middle of the maelstrom his life had become.
