Architecture of Infinity (2018)

  • Documentary
  • 1h 26m

Time is inherent in every building, but how can infinity be imagined in architecture? For the filmmaker Christoph Schaub, this fascination with time and space began in childhood when he was drawn towards sacred buildings. He began to focus on the emotional and philosophical impact of the spaces, rather than the art of their design or means of construction. Schaub explores, together with the architects Peter Zumthor, Peter Märkli and Alvaro Siza Vieira, the artists James Turrell and Cristina Iglesias, and drummer Jojo Mayer, the magic of sacred spaces, which he defines in terms that encompasses both the ecclesiastical and secular. He guides the viewer through created spaces, art, music and nature, where transcendence can be felt and experienced.
