Futura

1h 45m Documentary, F-Rated 2022

A portrait of Italy observed through the eyes of teenagers who talk about the places they live in, of their dreams, expectations, desires and fears. A work of ‘collective reportage’ by co-directors Pietro Marcello, Francesco Munzi and Alica Rohrwacher, who met in 2020, and travelled throughout Italy – locations range from rural villages, suburbs, and cities, from Naples to Milan, Turin to Palermo, Venice, Rome and beyond – talking with boys and girls aged 15 to 20 about how they imagine their future, and that of their country. ‘Do you feel as free as your parents?’, ‘What is the future for you?’, and ‘What would you do if you were head of state?’ are among the questions posed to the aspiring young musicians, boxers, beauticians, drama students, farmers, and students they encounter, eliciting responses that speak of disillusionment as well as passion.
