Grizzly Man (2005)

  • Biography, Documentary
  • 1h 43m

Working with ‘Creative Differences’, the production company Herzog would collaborate with on Encounters at the End of the World, Cave of Forgotten Dreams and Into the Abyss – which have all screened at the IFI to widespread acclaim – Grizzly Man was the first of these documentaries that marked a new departure for the director, who specialises in unearthing the most puzzling aspects of human nature.

Not unexpected then that Herzog was drawn to the disturbing story of Timothy Treadwell, an amateur wildlife protector who lived among grizzly bears in Alaska until his gruesome death in 2003. A fascinating portrait of grand delusion.
