Before reaching a new level of commercial success with Parasite (2019), director Bong Joon-Ho had already garnered a significant amount of critical acclaim with earlier films such as The Host (2006), and Mother (2009), leading to the production of Snowpiercer, featuring a starry cast including Chris Evans, Tilda Swinton, Jamie Bell, and John Hurt. However, at least in this part of the world, the film remained unseen for a number of years due to the demands of distributor the Weinstein Company for significant cuts, which the director refused. Set in a future where the remnants of humanity circumnavigate the globe in a train whose compartments have become segregated into a class structure, it’s a brilliantly made and extremely entertaining tale.
