The Fabulous Four

Respected Australian filmmaker Jocelyn Moorhouse, director of films such as Proof (1991) and producer of Muriel’s Wedding (P.J. Hogan, 1991), follows four older women, friends since college, as one of their number remarries. Marilyn (Bette Midler), the bride-to-be, wants Kitty (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and Alice (Megan Mullally) to be her bridesmaids. They want Lou (Susan Sarandon) to be part of the wedding too, though she and Lou have been estranged for years, and so hatch a plan to lure Lou to the event under false pretences. Once there, Lou’s anger at her friends is diluted by the distraction offered by Ted (Bruce Greenwood). These four gifted comedic actresses ensure that the film is never less than entertaining throughout as they find themselves in all manner of unlikely situations involving strip clubs and cannabis-infused chocolate as they rediscover just how much their relationship means to them.
