Joy and her six-year-old daughter live in Manila, with her violently abusive husband Dante. Arriving home one night in an alcohol-fuelled rage, Dante viciously attacks his wife. Joy grabs her daughter and flees to the police station to file a complaint and have him sent to jail. But Joy is to discover that the search for justice comes at a price. Her case, obstructed by corruption, bureaucracy and seemingly indifferent officials, gradually becomes mired in loopholes and delays. Lacking witnesses to support her case, Joy starts to feel that she and her daughter are increasingly under threat.
