This month-long season presents a collection of dynamic perspectives on how architecture and cities are represented through the moving image. The selected documentaries consider ideas around building design and construction, urban planning, conservation, and adaptive reuse. Biographical films are included, such as Aalto, a portrait of celebrated Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, The New Bauhaus, which explores the legacy of artist and designer László Maholy-Nagy and City Dreamers, which focuses on four renowned female architects. Films looking at the seminal work of Irish practitioners, such as Kevin Roche, Michael Scott, and Robin Walker, are also featured. Palace for the People investigates the reuse of monolithic buildings from the communist era, and the poetic Hotel Jugoslavia considers a building as a silent witness to a turbulent history.
The Architecture on Film season is available to rent on IFI@Home until June 30th 2021.
