Documentaries accounted for all but one of the top 5 Irish film rentals on IFI@Home in 2025. Three of these documentaries focused on women who have played significant roles in Irish society, a fourth reclaimed a forgotten story of working class activism; while the real-life actions of the stars of feature drama Kneecap ensured the film’s ongoing popularity. These Top 5 films provide a barometer of IFI audience interest and of the issues which engage us. They also demonstrate the quality of Irish filmmaking and the great range of stories being told about Irish history and Irish identity. The films all appeared first on our cinema screens and then on IFI@Home for viewers all around the country to enjoy in the comfort of their own homes. We invite you to catch up with any of the top 5 you haven’t yet seen or to treat yourself to a repeat of one of your favourites.
