Dracula
Luc Besson, originator of the ‘cinéma du look’ movement with films such as The Big Blue (1988) and La Femme Nikita (1990) has amassed an eclectic body of work encompassing titles as diverse as contemporary classic Leon (1994), sci-fi epic The Fifth Element (1997), family film The Extraordinary Adventures Of Adèle Blanc-Sec (2010), and Scarlett Johansson-starrer Lucy (2014). Now, Besson takes on one of the most iconic (and most portrayed) literary characters, emphasising the Gothic romance of Bram Stoker’s timeless novel. Caleb Landry Jones is the titular warrior who renounces God after the death of his wife and is cursed to wander the earth for eternity. On finding her reincarnated in the form of Mina Murray (Zoë Bleu), he pursues her, though she is protected by an unnamed priest (Christoph Waltz in the Van Helsing role) in this stylish adaptation.
