Ways to watch films on IFI@Home
The IFI@Home App
The IFI@Home iOS app can be downloaded here and the IFI@Home Android app here. There is also a specific app available for Apple TV, please search for IFI@Home on your Apple TV. Once you have rented a film on www.ifihome.ie, the film will automatically appear in your app Library. You can then watch it on your Apple/Android device or stream/cast it to your Apple TV or Chromecast. Films are also available to download on app for offline viewing.
Devices and browsers which we currently support
Due to recent updates in relation to computer browser compatibility, we now advise customers use the following browsers in order to view IFI@Home content. We recommend using the latest version of your browser as earlier versions may not be supported.
What are the requirements for Windows computers?
If your system is Windows 10, please use Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer. Please note that Microsoft Edge is enabled to allows casting to Chromecast.
If your system is Windows 8.1 or above, please use Internet Explorer.
We regret that we are no longer able to support any browsers running on Windows 7.
Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera are temporarily unavailable. We anticipate that these browsers will become available again in February 2021.
What are the requirements for Mac computers?
On systems running MacOS 10.12 or later, please use Safari. Google Chrome, Firefox and Opera are temporarily unavailable. We anticipate that these browsers will become available again in February 2021.
Can I watch content on my iPhone/iPad?
Yes, you can watch content using the IFI@Home app which can be downloaded here from the Apple App Store. The app requires iOS 10 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
Can I watch content on my Apple TV?
Yes, we offer a specific IFI@Home app suitable for Apple TV. To use this app, please search for it on Apple TV.
I can’t stream any of the content, what’s going on?
Check that you are using the minimum system requirements above. We also recommend that you update to the latest version of your browser.
We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed.
For High Definition (HD) streaming we recommend VDSL, cable or fibre connections as we cannot guarantee consistent HD streaming on ADSL.
What happens if I forget my password?
If you forget your password, click Forgot your password during Sign In and enter the email address you used when you created your account. A link to reset your password will be emailed to you.
Why does video playback stall or not play smoothly?
If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. Content in your library is also available to download for offline viewing using the IFI@Home app.
Can I Chromecast content?
You can Chromecast using Microsoft Edge on a Windows computer and Safari on a Mac computer as well as Android devices.
Due to temporary compatability issues, you cannot cast from Chrome to Chromecast or Chromecast from iPhone or iPad, but you can airplay from iOS to an AppleTV. We anticipate that these browsers will become available again in February 2021.
Where can I watch IFI@Home?
IFI@Home is geoblocked and available in the Republic of Ireland only. IFI@Home is the sister site of the IFI Player, where audiences around the world can enjoy free access to film materials preserved in the IFI Irish Film Archive.

How much time do I have to watch my film?
Once you have rented your film, it will stay in your Library for 3 days. Once you click play, you will have 48 hours to finish watching. You can watch, stop, rewind, fast forward and re-watch as many times as you like.
Some of our films may only be available for a shorter time period, due to licensing restrictions. Please read the film description carefully before purchasing.
Can I watch on multiple devices?
For security, you can only watch a film using your account on one device at one time.
How are films classified?
In the case where there is no age classification available by the Irish Film Classification Office, IFI offers an age recommendation which is intended as a guide.
Does IFI@Home offer CC (closed captioning) for films?
Closed captions will be available wherever possible for films. Please click on the ‘CC’ button in the playback window or email email@example.com before purchasing to confirm availability.
