Can I watch content on my iPhone/iPad?

Yes, you can watch content using the IFI@Home app which can be downloaded here from the Apple App Store. The app requires iOS 10.0 or later and is compatible with iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.

Can I watch content on my Apple TV?

Yes, we offer a specific IFI@Home app suitable for Apple TV. To use this app, please search for it on Apple TV.

Can I watch content on my Android phone/tablet?

Yes, you can watch content using the IFI@Home app which can be downloaded here from the Google Play Store.

Can I watch content using Amazon Fire?

Yes, the Amazon Fire TV App is available to download here.

Can I watch content on my Smart TV?

Not all Smart TVs have the capability to load IFI@Home and you may need to cast/airplay from another device. To test, please rent our free Test Your Setup film.

What are the requirements for Windows computers?

We support computers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 and Windows 11. Earlier versions are not supported. Please use Google Chrome v99 or above, Microsoft Edge v99 or above, Firefox v98 or above or Opera v84 or above. Internet Explorer is no longer supported.

What are the requirements for Mac computers?

We support Macs running OSX 10.12+. Please use Google Chrome v99 or above, Safari, Firefox v98 or above or Opera v84 or above.

I can’t stream any of the content, what’s going on?

Check that you are using the minimum System Requirements. We also recommend that you update to the latest version of your browser.
We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. You will need a broadband or fibre internet connection (dial up will not work).

What happens if I forget my password?

If you forget your password, click Forgot your password during Sign In and enter the email address you used when you created your account. A link to reset your password will be emailed to you.

Why is my film playing in standard definition (SD) and not high definition (HD)?

For security and licensing reasons, some films on IFI@Home need to be viewed on recommended browsers: Microsoft Edge, Safari, the iOS or Android Apps, Chromecast or Airplay. If you watch these films using Google Chrome, Firefox or Opera, the film may only be available in standard definition (SD) and not high definition (HD). To check prior to renting, please email ifihome@irishfilm.ie

Why does video playback stall or not play smoothly?

If your internet connection is poor or inconsistent you may experience problems during playback. We use adaptive bitrate streaming which means the streaming quality will automatically adjust based on your internet speed. You will need a broadband or fibre internet connection (dial up will not work). Content in your library is also available to download for offline viewing using the IFI@Home App.

Can I Chromecast content?

You can Chromecast using Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge on a Windows computer and Android devices and Google Chrome or Safari on a Mac computer. You can Chromecast from iPhone or iPad, or airplay from iOS to an AppleTV.

Can I use Amazon TV?

We support Fire TV Gen 1-3, Fire TV 4K and Fire TV Lite.

Where can I watch IFI@Home?

IFI@Home is geoblocked and available in the Republic of Ireland only. IFI@Home is the sister site of the IFI Archive Player, where audiences around the world can enjoy free access to film materials preserved in the IFI Irish Film Archive.

How much time do I have to watch my film?

Once you have rented your film, it will remain active in your Library for 72 hours. Once you click play, you will have 48 hours to finish watching. You can watch, stop, rewind, fast forward and re-watch as many times as you like. Some of our films may only be available for a shorter time period, due to licensing restrictions. Please read the film description carefully before purchasing.

Can I watch on multiple devices?

For security, you can only watch a film using your account on one device at one time.

How are films classified?

In the case where there is no age classification available by the Irish Film Classification Office, IFI offers an age recommendation which is intended as a guide.

Does IFI@Home offer CC (closed captioning) for films?

Closed captions will be available wherever possible for films. Please click on the ‘CC’ button in the playback window or email ifihome@irishfilm.ie before purchasing to confirm. A collection of our captioned films is available here.

Why can’t I see the subtitles on my rental?

If your non English-language film is playing without English subtitles, please click on the ‘CC’ button in the bottom right corner of the screen to turn them on. When there is a tick next to the English option, the subtitles should appear. You may need to refresh your playback.
