GAZA: A Story of Love and War
In September 2023, Welsh journalist Mike Joseph, of Jewish parents, began online meetings with Palestinian journalist Sami Abu Salem to discuss what Palestinians call the ‘Nakba’, or ‘catastrophe’, of the 1948 Palestine War. Just as Mike’s mother had been expelled from Germany and fled to Wales seeking refuge, Sami’s mother fled to Gaza following the depopulation of the village of Burayr by a brigade of Israeli soldiers that included Mike’s uncle. As they talk, parallels are drawn between the experiences of their two mothers in losing their homes and families. Finding that they have more and more in common with each other, tied as they are by the relationship between their two peoples, these men ponder whether their people will find a way of coexisting peacefully. Their dialogue is changed by events just weeks later in this moving, compassionate film.
