My Night at Maud's
The first two of Rohmer’s ‘Six Moral Tales’ were the short films The Baker Girl Of Monceau and Suzanne’s Career (both 1963). My Night At Maud’s was the first feature in the cycle and intended as the third release, although ultimately it was not released until after La Collectionneuse (1967). Over the Christmas period, Jean-Louis (Jean-Louis Trintignant), who intends to marry Françoise (Marie-Christine Barrault), is invited by friend Vidal (Antoine Vitez) to meet his former lover, Maud (Françoise Fabian), for whom Jean-Louis quickly develops feelings. Nominated for two Oscars, the film brought Rohmer significant international attention and success.
