A Far Green Country

1h 15m Documentary, Irish Film, Captioned 2021

This filmmaker has come out as trans since the release of this film. The film remains unaltered on our platform at the filmmaker’s request, with the understanding that this chapter of the filmmaker’s life is over but it may hopefully be of some insight to viewers.

A Far Green Country follows autistic filmmaker Chloe Victory as she undertakes the trip of a lifetime to visit New Zealand and the locations for Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy. The film reveals the ordinary and extraordinary challenges she faced as a person on the autistic spectrum navigating this formidable journey alone.

While reflecting on the medical, social and mental health challenges faced by the neurodivergent community, Victory also shares the joy of a special interest, the thrill of adventure and her delight in the beauty of New Zealand. Infused with a wry, self-deprecating humour and scored by electronic composer Lizzie Fitzpatrick, Victory has created a highly personal, entertaining and informative film which paves the way for more perspectives from neurodivergent filmmakers.
