Cat Person

Based on Kristen Roupenian’s 2017 short story for _The New Yorker _that subsequently went viral as the starting point for intense discussion of the etiquette of modern dating, Cat Person stars Emilia Jones (Coda) as Margot, a twenty-year-old college student who works part-time at a local cinema. When Robert (Nicholas Braun, Succession), one of the venue regulars, asks for her number, she gives it to him, and the two begin texting. However, when this enjoyable and chaste interaction moves from the screen moves to real life, elements of the significantly older Robert’s personality and behaviour begin to grate on Margot, even as she feels compelled to take the relationship further. When she finally does decide to withdraw from the man whose actual personality she now realises is very different from that of her text partner, Robert does not react well.
