Final Cut
In 2017, Japanese horror-comedy One Cut Of The Dead received worldwide acclaim for its originality, humour, and the metatextual manner in which it utterly subverted audience expectations. From the director of The Artist (2011) comes this remake of sorts, starring Bérénice Bejo and Romain Duris, in which the set of a low-budget zombie movie is invaded by actual zombies, with the tyrannical director using the subsequent terror and mayhem to fuel his own creation and wring satisfactory performances from his cast. However, not all is as it seems, although to say too much would spoil the surprises in the film that will keep the viewer guessing as to the ‘reality’ of what they are watching. Final Cut is a very funny, very entertaining portrait of the filmmaking industry that ultimately paints a very sweet portrait of the bonds of love that create family.
