Four Little Adults

As this engaging and witty Finnish take on the romantic comedy begins, Juulia (Alma Pöysti) and husband Matias (Eero Milonoff) still enjoy a passionate relationship as they move towards middle age. She is a successful parliamentarian, he a respected pastor, but when Juulia discovers that her husband has been cheating on her for some time, her initial, understandable devastation at the betrayal gives way to a more unexpected reaction; she proposes that the two open their marriage and experiment with polyamory, inviting Enni (Oona Airola), the other woman, into their relationship. The trio becomes a quartet with the introduction of non-binary drag performer (Pietu Wikström) as Juulia’s new lover. As relationships and jealousies wax and wane, an unexpected pregnancy forces everyone to consider their position. Never judgemental, this is an open and even-handed depiction of an evolution in contemporary relationships.
