RADE: The Tapper's Opera
The Tapper’s Opera is a hilarious fresh take on John Gay’s 1728 ballad opera The Beggars’ Opera, created and performed by the RADE actors in collaboration with musician Trevor Knight, scriptwriter Rodney Lee, and director Gary Boyd. Set in the run-up to a papal visit to Dublin, the plot involves a love-triangle centred on Mac, a Dublin gangster, Molly his fiancé and daughter of arch-rival gangster Peach, Rosie a sex worker with marine biology aspirations, and Lucy the wife of dim-witted corrupt Garda commissioner Lockett. Treachery, assassination and babies ensue!
Created with the kind and generous support of Create Ireland, the National Lottery and St Patricks’ Cathedral, together with the ongoing support of the DEASP and the South Inner City Drugs Taskforce.
