The Door Ajar

1h 23m Documentary, Irish Film 2011

In August 1937 the French poet Antonin Artaud arrived in Cobh, bringing with him a stick which he believed to have belonged to St. Patrick. His intention was to return the staff to its rightful owners and, with their help, to rediscover some fundamental truths. The Door Ajar examines Artaud’s back-catalogue of poems, letters and essays and uses them to create a possible account of the weeks he spent travelling in Ireland.

This factually-based film was the final work of artist Paddy Jolley, whose work in film, photography and sculpture won critical acclaim and many awards.
