The Seven Ages of Noël Browne

1h 21m Documentary, Irish Film 2023

Drawing upon a previously unseen and newly discovered 1997 four-hour interview (and other unseen footage and material), The Seven Ages of Noël Browne is an intimate feature-length documentary on the radical figure of Dr. Noël Browne - challenger of consensus, radical Minister for Heath, author of the failed Mother and Child Scheme, nemesis of Archbishop John Charles McQuaid and socialist contrarian. The film is a major reappraisal of this important, complex and arguably tragic figure and relates - in the company of his two daughters, Ruth and Susan - the dramatic story of a man whose life and times has potent resonance for contemporary Irish society.
