The Silver Branch

1h 15m Documentary, Irish Film, F-Rated 2017

A cinematic eulogy to nature and agrarian culture and a glimpse into the life of farmer/poet Patrick McCormack, descendant of generations of farmers who have lived off the Burren in County Clare.

The Mesolithic tombs, famine villages and endless stone walls tell of the Burren’s long history of human habitation. Patrick longs to farm quietly like his forebears but life takes a different turn when he joins the Burren Action Group in their campaign to oppose plans for a vast interpretative centre at Mullaghmore, a battle that divided the local community but ultimately saved this iconic wilderness.

This debut from director Katrina Costello, who shot much of the breath-taking nature sequences herself, creates a viewing experience that is deeply meditative, leading to a deep connection with the natural environment and a heightened awareness of our role in protecting our vulnerable planet.
