Blood Rising

1h 15m Documentary, Irish Film 2013

Ciudad Juarez in Mexico is one of the most dangerous cities in the world. In 2010 (when this film was made) 438 young women were murdered there and only 2 percent of the cases were properly investigated. Their grieving mothers were ignored by the police, government, judiciary and the media. Their cries for help were unanswered and when the Mexican government sent in extra police and army they became part of the problem, as they became consumed by money, greed and drugs. This film follows a pioneering art project where many mothers chose to work with Irish artist, Brian Maguire, to communicate their stories to the outside world in the hope that the international pressure may bring some justice to their loss.
