In weiter Ferne, so nah!
In this sequel to Wings Of Desire (1987), the newly mortal Damiel (Bruno Ganz) is married and a father, living in reunited Berlin to the woman for whom he gave up his angelhood (Solveig Donmartin). Although he can no longer see his former companion Cassiel (Otto Sander), he knows he is watching, and regularly updates him on earthly pleasures. After listening to the thoughts of the likes of Lou Reed and Mikhail Gorbachev, Cassiel impulsively becomes human to save a child’s life. He finds the transition difficult, hindered by Emit Flesti (Willem Dafoe), and becomes involved in Berlin’s criminal underground.
