Wrong Move
Falsche Bewegung
Wenders’s loose adaptation of Goethe’s Wilhelm Meister’s Apprenticeship, written on the cusp of the nineteenth century, once again sees Rüdiger Vogler starring, this time as Wilhelm, an aspiring writer who leaves his family and girlfriend to travel around Germany in search of inspiration. Along the way, his encounters include beautiful actress Therese (Fassbinder regular Hanna Schygulla), Laertes (Hans Christian Blech), an older man who played a part in Germany’s recent dark history, Mignon, a mute young acrobat (Nastassja Kinski), and budding poet Bernhard (Peter Kern). Wilhelm’s search for identity mirrors that of post-War Germany in this melancholic and insightful film.
